Phone Water-Resistance Database β€” IP Ratings by Model

PhoneIP ratingDepth / timeWhat it means

Ratings are each manufacturer’s official specification for a new device. Real-world water resistance fades with age, drops and repairs, and liquid damage is generally not covered by warranty β€” never deliberately submerge your phone.

Wondering if your phone can survive a splash, a spill, or a drop in the pool? This database lists the official IP water-resistance rating for popular phones, with the immersion depth the manufacturer states and a plain-English explanation of what it actually protects against. Search your model or filter by brand.

What the IP rating numbers mean

An IP (“Ingress Protection”) code has two digits: the first is dust protection (0–6), the second is water protection (0–9). For phones you’ll mostly see:

  • IP68 β€” dust-tight and protected against continuous immersion (depth and time set by the maker, e.g. 1.5 m or 6 m for 30 minutes).
  • IP67 β€” dust-tight and safe in up to 1 metre of water for 30 minutes.
  • IPX8 β€” tested for water immersion but with no official dust rating (common on foldables).
  • IP65 / IP64 / IP54 β€” dust-resistant and splash- or jet-resistant only; not for immersion.
  • Not rated β€” no official water resistance; keep it dry.
Important reality check: IP ratings are lab results for a brand-new, sealed device using fresh water. Seals degrade with age, heat, drops and screen repairs, and almost every manufacturer excludes liquid damage from the warranty. Treat these ratings as “accidental splash insurance,” never a licence to swim with your phone.
